Stick A Benefit In The Subject Line
Your subject line is the most important part of an e-mail, which is why you write it last, after you’ve written down both your conclusion and the arguments and evidence that supports that conclusion.
Ideally, a subject line should accomplish two important tasks: 1) interest the recipient enough so that the e-mail gets opened and read, and 2) imply the conclusion that you want to the recipient to accept.
In most cases, the best way to accomplish both tasks is to encapsulate a benefit that will result from the decision that you’d like the recipient to make.
Subject: The Health Impact of In-House Employee Fitness Programs
Subject: How we can reduce absenteeism
To wrap it up, here are the two e-mails:
Subject: The Health Impact of In-House Employee Fitness ProgramsJim,As you know, employee absenteeism is generally recognized as an ongoing problem with a steep financial impact, both in our company and in other companies in our industries. An in-house gym will reduce absenteeism because then people will want to come to work rather than stay at home and they won’t get sick so much. Therefore, we should consider allocating money for the installation of a gym at our headquarters facility. Your support for this project would be greatly appreciated.Jill
Subject Lines For Sloth
Laziness can also contribute to crafting a great subject line. For instance, you can encourage people to open your emails by highlighting resources they can find in them. Encourage People To Imagine
Sure, products or services descriptions do work otherwise, businesses wouldnt invest so much into hiring professional writers to craft them. But did you know that often they dont work as effectively as your clients imagination?
So actually one of the best ways to persuade your clients to order certain products or services is to let them do all the work. And you can achieve it in a very simple way by encouraging them to use their imagination.
Just look at these two examples:
You can improve your sleep and physical activity with the help of this fitness tracker.Imagine waking up easily, without the need to hit that snooze button even if you didnt sleep for 8 hours straight. Imaging becoming more active without even changing your lifestyle dramatically. Our fitness tracker could help you with that, monitoring your sleep and daily activity.
While the first one does describe the perks of using a fitness tracker, the second one does so in more details, appealing to the readers feelings.

Stick To Your Purpose
Each of your emails should have a specific purpose. In order to persuade someone, you need to know what you want them to do and why.
If we consider your email as a rhetorical situation, we can look at the breakdown of key components: the sender , the context, the message, the purpose, and the audience. Well talk more about the audience and the messaging in the next few tips. For now, lets talk about defining the purpose of your email.
To define your purpose, think about what you want to accomplish in your email. Promote a webinar. Offer a content download. Announce a product release. Share your first blog post. These are all great options for the purpose of a marketing email. Once you determine the purpose, you need to stick to that to write a specific, persuasive email.
Thoroughly Research Both Sides
Every argument has a counterargumentthis is one of the staples of rhetoric. To convince your reader to agree with you, you must be knowledgeable of the opposing side. As important as it is to thoroughly research your topic, identifying and studying both sides of the argument will help you develop the strongest supporting evidence possible. During the research process, gather as much information as you can about the topic at hand. Use your schools resources like the library, academic journals, and reference materials. With a full understanding of your topic, youll be able to readily counter the opposition and assuage any follow-up questions that might cast doubt on your claims.

Use Retargeting Subject Lines
Retargeting subject lines are effective when prospects fail to complete an action you wanted them to take . Not to lose customers, gently remind them about the unfinished purchase using such subject lines: “The price dropped for the product in your cart,” “Get 20% off when you finish your order!”, “Was there a problem checking out?”.
Determine Your Emails Goal
The first thing you need to do before writing a marketing email is to figure out what action you want your email subscribers to take after reading your email?
This will be the goal of the email.
Every email you draft and send to your list should have a singular goal, whether its buying a product or reading a blog post. Do not try to have multiple goals at once, as this can distract your readers and they will end up taking no action at all. Instead, focus on the action you want your readers to take and use it as the basis of your email copy.
For example, the goal of Infusionsofts email below is to get readers to schedule a demo:

Choose A Position Youre Passionate About
The first step in writing a persuasive essay is choosing a topic and picking a side. If the topic is something you believe in, it will make the entire experience of researching, writing, and arguing your perspective more personal. Choosing a topic that appeals to you on an emotional or sentimental level will make its defense easier. Plus, chances are youll already know a good deal of information about the topic, so you wont be left scrambling when its time to start your research.
How To Write Persuasive Emails
Writing persuasive emails is vital to business success. As more and more companies go paperless, your ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively via electronic media will become increasingly important. Regardless of your occupation, you will only succeed if you are able to persuade people to see things your way and act in a manner that will contribute to your success as well as their own. As email becomes more essential, your familiarity with effective writing in this medium will serve you well both personally and professionally.
Give your email a good subject title. If your email does not attract the recipient’s attention, then they may not even open it. An unopened email may as well have not been written at all for all the good it does you. The title should indicate what the reader will receive from opening the email or a way in which they might benefit.
Include clickable links if necessary. If your email has additional material on a website or requires a reader to use an online order form to get the product, then you should make sure that all the links in your email work. Many people will stall and even stop in their tracks if links do not work, so make certain that all of your links are clickable and easy to use so that a reader can respond to your request for action immediately and as conveniently as possible.

Get To Know Your Audience
Several email problems only arise because youve written an email to the wrong audience, or with no audience considerations in mind.
You wouldnt write a message to your CEO the same way youd write it to a new intern, and for several reasons. First, different positions may require a different level of formality. Second, unfamiliar audiences require additional tact, and compensation for your uncertainty about their disposition.
Third, different people will have different vocabulary levelsespecially when it comes to your area of expertiseso you may have to adjust your language accordingly. In combination with these considerations, you may use different appeals to persuade different audiences.
For example, one group of people might respond to an emotional appeal while others will respond to a more logical appeal .

A Simple Formula For More Persuasive Emails
In the 19th century, 1898 to be precise, Elias St. Elmo Lewis, an American advertising advocate wrote a column in a printing magazine called The Inland Printer where he first spoke about advertising principles that he found most useful throughout his career. This was the first time the concept of AIDA was spoken about.
Ever since then, AIDA has been one of the most popular and widely used principles across advertising and marketing circles. Tons of organizations have based their entire marketing strategies around the AIDA model.
Before looking into how this model can be applied to your email marketing strategy, lets understand what it is. AIDA model describes the natural progression of a customer before he/she makes a purchase decision. The different stages include Attraction, Interest, Desire and Action .
In the case of email marketing, this is the progression you see from the time your subscriber sees your email to the time they click on the link in the email.

Construct Your Conclusion First
Copy is created backwards.
You need to determine your emails conclusion, tied to the goal you set up earlier, before you write.
The conclusion isnt more than the marketing message you want your audience to consume the set of knowledge and beliefs you want them to have so they can take proper action.
If youve done your research correctly, you dont need to come up with marketing messages. You already know what your audience wants, what they know, and what theyre willing to do to get your offers.
Repeat Your Conclusion As A Call To Action
At the end of the e-mail, restate the conclusion in a way that provides the recipient with the next step that the recipient must take, assuming the recipient now agrees with your conclusion, based upon the force of your arguments and evidence. Keep it simple and specific.

Structure Your Supporting Argument Into Digestible Chunks
Once you’ve stated your conclusion, marshall the arguments that support your conclusion . To make your arguments “digestible,” break them into small “chunks,” and present each point with a similar format and sentence structure.
According to a recently published government report, group physical fitness is extremely important even though very few companies actually demonstrate a commitment to it! Many firms identify physical fitness as an undervalued competitive asset, but don’t have a plan for improvement in this area, even though physical fitness is strongly linked to corporate and individual economic and personal success. I feel that if we do not address the issue of physical fitness as it enhances workplace productivity, we will be left behind.
