    Save To Favorites And Define Words

    If you plan to use a phrase in the future, tap the star-shaped Favorite icon next to the translated text to save it to your Favorites list.

    Tap the book icon, and you can look up each translated word in a dictionary for a definition. Once you tap the icon, the first word in the translation is highlighted and defined. You can then tap another word in the translation to see its dictionary definition.

    Tap the Favorites icon in the bottom or side navigation to view any phrases you have added to your Favorites list, as well as all recently translated phrases. If you wish to remove a favorite from the list, swipe it to the left and tap the Unfavorite icon.

    To remove a recent phrase, swipe it to the left and tap the Delete icon. You can also favorite recent phrases by tapping the Favorite icon.

    Literally nothing happens when I type in the text to translate and press the go button. The text simply disappears from the screen and doesnt show any sort of translation. It doesnt even show the original text anymore. Its like the app resets every time you enter text and press go. The text disappears and nothing happens after that. Even trying to press the microphone to speak the translation doesnt work because the microphone button doesnt seem to do anything either. It wont even initiate a recording to translate.Its like this is a dud app developed solely to take up space. I followed all the directions and enabled all the permission, and still the app is a dud. Apparently it works for some people but a lot of people cant get it to work for any language. Ive deleted and redownloaded the languages, and deleted and redownloaded the app itself, and still it doesnt work.It sometimes worked on my old iPhone 7, but has never worked on my iPhone XR. Maybe it only works on the newest iPhone models? As Apples way of forcing us to upgrade to the latest line of iPhones. But Im not doing that. Ill just go back to iTranslate or Google Translate instead. Those apps may collect data on me but at least they always worked when I needed them to.

    How To Turn On Auto Translate In The Translate App

    To make your life easier, there is an Auto Translate feature in the Translate app on both iPhone and iPad. This allows the app to automatically detect which language is being spoken, and it will translate accordingly, so you don’t need to manually select the languages.

    Translating Words & Phrases By Typing

    Still in portrait orientation, you can tap in the “Enter text” field, then start typing with the keyboard. In keyboard mode, it won’t detect the language that you’re typing automatically, so make sure to choose which dialect you’re typing in above the keyboard. Best of all, you don’t have to download any other language keyboards they’re already ready to go for all of the supported languages.

    Unfortunately, you can’t paste in content, only type it, and we hope that changes in future updates.

    Once typed in, tap “go” on the keyboard, and you’ll see the written translation right away. It won’t vocalize the translation, but you can tap the play button to hear it.

    If you want to know more about each word in the translated text, tap the book icon to open up the dictionary at the first word. Then, you can tap each word in the translation to read more about what it means in different scenarios. Alternatively, you can tap a word in the blue translated text to open up the dictionary right to that word.

This is great for having conversations, as you’ll only need to tap the microphone button to translate everything.

    To turn this feature on, tap one of the languages at the top of the screen, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and toggle “Automatic Detection” on.
