How To Use and Set Up iCloud on Your iPhone or iPad

If you need to change the iCloud account or Apple ID account on your iPhone, you must delete the existing iCloud account on the device. Because this option is worded as Delete Account, many users believe that all content in their iCloud storage drive will be deleted. This is not the case. When you delete the iCloud account from the iPhone, your content remains in the cloud. Only the iCloud account settings are deleted from the device.

To delete the existing iCloud account, launch the Settings app, and then tap the iCloud tab. On the iCloud screen, tap the Delete Account option. Enter the old Apple ID or iCloud email address, along with the password for the account. Next, set up iCloud by logging in with your new iCloud email address or Apple ID.

Apple provides iCloud software developed specifically for Windows. Once installed, you can access files stored on your iCloud Drive, synchronize your Chrome/Firefox/Internet Explorer bookmarks with Safari, synchronize iCloud Mail, and more.

But you dont need Apples software to access iCloud-based emails and calendar events on Windows 10. Tools to access both are built into the operating system. All you need to do is add an iCloud account in the Mail app, and youre good to go.

Keep in mind that youll need to take an additional step if your iCloud account uses two-factor authentication. This essentially prevents hackers from accessing your account if they obtain your password. But it also requires you to create app-specific passwords. Without these passwords, you cant access your iCloud email account using base Apple ID credentials.

Set Up Icloud For Mail On All Your Devices

After you create a primary iCloud Mail address, you can use iCloud Mail on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Windows computer, and on iCloud.com. For an overview of what you can do with iCloud, see Send and receive iCloud Mail on all your devices and keep Mail settings up to date. If you have an iCloud+ subscription, you can also set up a custom email domain to personalize iCloud Mail.

Note: Make sure youre signed in with the same Apple ID on each device. If you have devices where youre not signed in with your Apple ID or that have iCloud Mail turned off, you wont be able to send or receive email from your iCloud Mail address on those devices. If you have devices that have iCloud Drive turned off, your Mail settings wont stay up to date on those devices.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind

First and foremost, custom email domains for iCloud Mail is still a beta feature, and hence, is only available via beta.icloud.com at the moment. With this in mind, I dont recommend hosting your custom domain with iCloud Mail for very important email addresses or mission-critical work. Keep in mind that these are just Apples recommended settings. Advanced users may have their own specific DNS record settings based on their needs.

iCloud hosted email is also limited to just five domains, and there is currently no wildcard support. In other words, you cannot yet set up a catch-all for emails sent to addresses that are not yet set up.
