Emails show how President Trump’s team scrambled to overturn election results

Actor Matthew McConaughey delivered impassioned and at-times emotional remarks at the White House press briefing on Tuesday, telling the stories of those who died in the elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and urging more action on gun control.

For More Than Two Months Trump Organizations Have Sent Me Repeated Pleas For Donations Sometimes As Many As Four Emails In One Day

Donald Trump is counting on me. He told me so.

Michael, I need your help, the former president said in an email on Wednesday.

His people stressed how important I am to him.

When President Trump considers all of his Top Patriots, he thinks of YOU, Michael. YOU have been his #1 supporter from the beginning, and we want you to know it has not gone unnoticed, said a subsequent email on Wednesday.

A day earlier, however, they let me know Trump wasnt very happy with me.

We just received the below email from President Trump. Hes disappointed that you werent on the first list of entries to win lunch with him in FLORIDA, they wrote on Tuesday.

From Trumps purported email: Why havent my top supporters contributed to win a trip to meet me in Florida? I really want them there with me as my VIP guest.

Yes, somehow I ended up on Trump fundraising email lists. For the record, I am not a supporter nor one of his Top Patriots and, if anyone cares, I am a No Party Preference registered voter. I have not been in contact with any of the Trump organizations or responded to any of their missives. They certainly know how to get in touch with me, though.

Between Nov. 9 and Friday, Ive received 74 emails from Trump organizations. Thats an average of about one a day. Often, two have arrived on one day, occasionally three and, at least a couple times, four in one day. They are not repeats each email is different.

But such matters are secondary to raising money.

Gingrich: Best Ways To Send A Message To Trump Are Through Fox & Friends And Hannity

Occasionally, wed talk on Seans show knowing Trump was watching, Gingrich told The New York Times, referring to Sean Hannity

The two most effective ways of communicating with Trump are Fox & Friends and Hannity, Gingrich added.

Trump this year has repeatedly praised Fox & Friends, which recently announced that it would expand its weekday programming to five hours.

Gingrich in his interview with the newspaper praised Hannitys show as a successful way to communicate with Americans.

There are very few people who have a better understanding of the broad base, a better intuitive understanding of the kind of folks who elected Trump. He at least matches or surpasses Rush in that understanding, Gingrich told the newspaper of Hannity.

The president recently sparked controversy by saying Fox News is much more important than its rival network, CNN.

Fox News is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them! Trump said in a tweet last week.

Is This Really The Suppression Of Political Speech

A lot of these systems are flagged automatically or occur when customer complaints come in, so thats a hard case to make. Theres no evidence that the carriers or their partners are flagging and blocking these messages for reasons other than preventing spam.

The telecom companies are also far more reserved when it comes to staking out a political position, with the carriers previously having praised Trump for his large corporate tax cut in 2017.

When it comes to combatting spam, the motivation is primarily driven by the need to eliminate something most people find annoying.

Trump Investigated For Russia Relations

After Trump fired FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from investigations into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to investigate. Mueller resigned in 2019 after saying the investigation was over.

William Barr, the attorney general appointed by Trump to replace Sessions, claimed that the investigation, which on many points was inconclusive, had exonerated Trump. Trump called the whole affair a witch hunt.

This investigation, which has resulted in a number of pleas and indictments of members of the Trump team, as well as of Russian foreign agents, continued into the new year, as did independent congressional investigations. Some of Trumps congressional supporters introduced resolutions for the impeachment of Rosenstein. Rosenstein resigned in May 2019.

The President received considerable criticism for meeting in Helsinki, Finland, with Russian President Vladimir Putin without another American official other than a translator in the room. Some members of Congress had called for the translator to testify about the content of the conversations.

Donald Trump Launches ‘office Of The Former President’ In Florida

PALM BEACH — Former President Donald Trump has launched the “Office of the Former President” in Palm Beach, which is tasked with overseeing the 45th president’s official activities in his post-presidency life.

A statement announcing the launch of the new office on Monday read: “The office will be responsible for managing President Trump’s correspondence, public statements, appearances and official activities to advance the interests of the United States and to carry on the agenda of the Trump administration through advocacy, organizing and public activism. President Trump will always and forever be a champion for the American people.”

Mr. Trump and former first lady Melania Trump relocated to his Mar-a-Lago resort, the morning of January 20, choosing not to welcome President Joe Biden and first lady Dr. Jill Biden to the White House and skipping the new president’s inauguration.

Without access to his Twitter account, which the company banned following the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, Mr. Trump has been quiet and forced to rely on more traditional vehicles to reach the public and the press in his final days in office.

While Mr. Trump has not announced how he plans to spend his post-White House years and whether he intends to return to politics, he has suggested he does not intend to stay away from the public eye.

How Do These Mass Text Messages Work

Political campaigns tap companies such as Hustle or RumbleUp that employ hundreds of people who each send thousands of text messages to potential voters. Theyre exactly like the text messages that you or I send to our friends and family, and are categorized as peer-to-peer, or P2P messages. Thats different from whats known as application-to-peer, or A2P, messages, which are more formal blast text messages.

Since P2P messages are normally supposed to be more limited exchanges between individuals, systems may flag accounts that send too many messages. If, for instance, you send more than 1,000 messages in a day, those messages will likely get blocked.

Companies will work with the carriers ahead of time to get prior approval to send these mass messages.

White House Races To Identify Those In Close Contact With President Trump | TODAY

Forty-fifth president, 20172021

Donald J. Trump was elected president of the United States after tapping into populist American sentiment. Having led a career in business and television, he created an identity that was antitraditional government and put forth an America First agenda. During his tenure, Trump appointed a record number of federal judges, including three Supreme Court justices. He brokered the Abraham Accords, significantly restricted immigration, and reduced government regulations. In February 2020, the unemployment rate was a record low at 3.5 percent. Throughout his term, he was impeached two times: the first on charges of abusing power and obstruction of Congress and the second for incitement of insurrection. He was acquitted by the Senate in both trials. This photograph of Trump, from June 17, 2019, was taken on the day before he officially announced he would seek a second term. The beginning of the coronavirus pandemic , which resulted in a devastating loss of human lives and an economic crisis, became a key issue during his reelection campaign. More Americans voted in the 2020 presidential election than ever before, and the majority elected Joseph R. Biden Jr. Nevertheless, Trump did not concede, and a mob of his supporters, who refused to accept the results, attacked the U.S. Capitol complex on January 6, 2021, when Congress was working to certify Bidens win.

Trump Won Evangelical Support By Promising More Freedom

Early in his campaign, Trump was endorsed by Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University. Trump convinced many evangelicals that he would secure their First Amendment free exercise rights and exempt them from government regulations, such as the requirement that health plans provide access to birth-control pills that they consider to be abortifacients. As president, Trump signed an executive order seeking protections for religious freedom .

House To Get More John Eastman Emails Including Electors Discussions And Other Planning

A federal judge has decided the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection should get access this month to 159 emails of right-wing attorney John Eastman that largely relate to his efforts on behalf of Donald Trump to try to block the 2020 election result.

The judge as he did previously related to another set of Eastman emails decided one of the emails could be evidence of the planning of a crime, specifically Eastman and Trumps efforts to thwart Congress certifying the election result on January 6, 2021.

The ruling comes as the House committee plans Thursday to hold its first public hearing discussing some of its findings about the January 6 Capitol attack and what precipitated it.

Judge David O. Carter will allow Eastmans team until June 16 to turn over the 159 emails.

Eastman, as an attorney for Trump working to overturn the election result, will likely be a crucial figure in the Houses retelling. His emails, described now in court but not yet released publicly, may shed significant light on actions and thoughts of the closest ring of advisers around then-President Trump, and even Trump himself.

The judge notes Trump and Eastmans plan to disrupt the Joint Session was fully formed and actionable as early as December 7, 2020.

Still, many emails that Eastman claimed were his legal work are not or should be disclosed, the judge found.

This story has been updated with additional developments.

Texts Come Hours Apart With No Clear Explanation For How The Money Will Be Spent

Find your bookmarks in your Independent Premium section, under my profile

Former President Donald Trump is out of office, and has not announced any plans to run in the future, but that hasnt stopped his political action committee from bombarding his fans with daily requests for money and other support.

Months of text messages reviewed by The Independent reveal that supporters of the former president received at least one text message per day throughout the month of May, with some texts coming mere hours apart ahead of fundraising deadlines.

The donation links route money to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a joint fundraising committee that splits funds between the Republican National Committee , Mr Trumps 2020 campaign for president, as well as the Save America PAC, an organisation founded by Mr Trump to fund his future political efforts.

The frequency of the calls for donations rivals that of most active political campaigns, and suggests that Mr Trump is keen on maintaining a massive war chest throughout his post-presidency that means his endorsement carries huge financial weight in any local race.

Some texts sent to supporters via the automated service are designed to appear as if they were personally written by the former president, while others are signed by Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr, and former first lady Melania Trump.

The Independent has reached out to the office of Mr Trump for comment.

Trump Attacked Establishment News Media

It is doubtful that any national candidate since President Nixons vice president, Spiro Agnew, has been more negative toward the established media than Trump.

He frequently called members of the media dishonest and singled them out for ridicule at his rallies. He called the press the enemy of the people and often bypassed the media by refusing to be interviewed. He instead preferred to reach his followers directly through tweets, many of which were outrageous but nonetheless captured public attention and news media coverage.

Trump initially hired a number of people from the alt-right movement, including Steve Bannon of Breitbart News, to be in his inner circle. He and his defenders often accused the media of manufacturing fake news.

Trump has faced criticism for his attacks on the news media. Arizona Senator Jeff Flake gave a speech on the Senate floor on Jan. 17, 2018, in which he said that Trump’s characterization of the press as the enemy of the people echoed the words of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.
