Social media is an excellent way to stay engaged with your customers and generate new leads. Here are some ways to leverage social media to build your email list without opening up your wallet.
1. Add a CTA to Your Bio
Instead of using your bio to talk about how much you love the beach, why not use it for a call to action thats going to build your email list?
Here are a couple of examples from , but you can do this with any social media platform. And, dont worry, people will figure out that you love the beach by how much you post about it.
Both accounts have a fun sprinkling of emojis that are breaking up their keywords. Also, notice that both use the word free in their call to action.
2. Pin a Tweet with a CTA
Twitter lets users pin an important tweet to the top of their feed which presents an excellent opportunity for a call to action. Pinned tweets are the first tweets that appear whenever someone visits your profile page, so make sure youre using the space to your advantage to build your email list.

3. Create a CTA Post on Instagram

Gmail has add-ons and extensions available that can take your experience to the next level. There are native add-ons that can be very helpful for email marketing strategies. Here are a few of them:
Canned Responses: We mentioned this topic earlier in the article. Canned Response is quite helpful as you can save templates and use them as needed. It is a functionality native to gmail, but you have to activate it by:

Export: Gmail offers the option to export your contact list so you can back it up and use it on other tools. Below you will see how to export a list:
Sign into your email
Go to the contacts tab
Select the contacts you would like to export by ticking one by one or select a label to export all contacts saved under it

Import: Another great option is to import email lists created by using a SaaS to extract emails from Linkedin and use content generated by the software itself that can be shared through Gmail lists. Hello Oil Boss! With Instagram and Facebook being down for that full day, it made me realize how important it is that I keep growing my email list and you should too! We own our email list, no one else, so if anything happens to our FB groups or following on social media, we still have OUR list! A great way to get started is choose the best platform for you. I use Mailerlite, but MailChimp is also great and they’re both user friendly. I am not very tech savvy, but YouTube helped with everything I didn’t know! Mailerlite has really simple YouTube tutorials to learn how to do everything!
Once you’ve chosen your platform, think of a great giveaway! When you signed up for this newsletter, you may have received a cleaning guide as a bonus for signing up. It is always a good thing to offer some value with the sign up. This can all be done automatically on either platform, so you can use your energy to promote and grow your email list. Once you start getting sign ups, be sure to communicate with your subscribers at least once a month. As you may have noticed, I like to send mine out once a month, because I feel like there are so many sites that send out too many emails and I hope that when you see mine, you are inclined to read it more, because you don’t hear from me every week and I do my best to give you some awesome tips and tricks on growing your business.

You Must Understand Your Audience
Who are you targeting? Before you begin building an email list, its helpful to have an idea of who these people are.
I recommend that you create a a made-up person that represents your ideal customer.
A basic persona should look something like this. Fill in the gaps with everything that you know about your target audience.
A complete persona would look something like this:
Heres why creating a persona is so important. You need to figure out where your audience hangs out.
First, you need to find people, and then they will give you their email address. One of the most valuable places to find your audience initially is through social media. If you can discover where your audience hangs out socially, you will be able to get their email addresses more easily.
Creating A Distribution List From Search Criteria
In this example, I wish to create a group for members of the city council. In each of these fictitious contact records, I added the text city council in their Notes field.
If you click a contact, you should also see their group labels under their name.
An important point to remember is if you create a group based on search criteria, the group isnt dynamic. For example, if I create a group based on contacts with the email address containing @timeatlas.com and add another contact with the same domain, it will not join my existing group.

Make It Easy For Your Visitors
Your ideal customers are showing up, but youre driving them away if youre asking them to fill in a lifes worth of information in order to get on your email list.
You really just NEED an email address.
The less your readers have to share about themselves, the more likely they are to give up that minimal information. And that means the more conversions youll see.
Also, be clear about exactly what theyre signing up for and what they can expect to get.
Create An Email Course
Email courses can grow your list very quickly.

Think of something that youd like to teach your audience which would provide value to them. Chunk it out into an email course in your autoresponder series to be dripped out.

With all the other things you have to do, is it really worth your time to learn how to create a mailing list?
Think about it this way.
An email list consists of the names and email addresses of people who actually gave you permission to send them updates and promotions.

Create A Landing Page
Landing pages are one of the most proven ways to build your list. Theyre pages whose sole purpose is to accomplish one action be it a purchase, a share, or, for our case, a sign-up.
When youre asking for an email address, youre usually giving something away called a content upgrade. These upgrades can be ebooks, guides, videos, or any piece of valuable content you dont generally give away.
These landing pages generally stand on their own theyre not accessible through your main navigation. You can use landing pages in very specific ways .
Services like MailChimp, ConvertKit, and more provide such features for their users to design landing pages aimed to collect emails.
The services mentioned are the more basic of the options as far as landing pages go. What youre doing is creating a page then embedding a sign-up form directly into the body of the page.
The biggest advantage to this method is youll be forced to create a list in your ESP that the form will be tied to.

Start With Google Contacts Manager
You can get to your contacts by going to in your browser.
The Google Contact Manager is divided into two parts as shown in the picture below.
This screen may differ slightly based on whether you use the free version or paid version. The screen snap below was from a G Suites account, which is the paid version.
This left section shows your existing groups and functions. Some groups are automatically created based on your activities. For example, if you , it will create a new label. Another example is Starred contacts, which display at the top of your contacts list.
The right section displays the contacts basic fields. In some cases, you may see incomplete entries. For example, you may have a starred contact synced from your Android phone, but you dont have their email address.
