Online Marketplace Purchase Scams
Online transactions, whether you are the buyer or the seller, require caution to make sure you avoid scams. This is particularly true if you are engaging in a person-to-person transaction, perhaps through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist or eBay rather than purchasing through an online store.
When you are buying items advertised online, make sure that the seller actually has possession of the goods being sold, and hasnt just copied photos someone else has posted online. If possible, view the product in-person before purchasing, but take appropriate safety precautions including meeting in a safe, well populated place and bringing a friend.
If you must purchase an item without viewing the item in person, take additional precautions:

Using A Spam Filter In Outlook 2019 2016 2013 2010 And Outlook In Microsoft 365
In newer Outlook versions with the ribbon interface, follow these steps to set up the spam filter:
Step 1: Click on the ribbon and select .
Step 2: Next, set the spam filter to Low or High. It’s best to test which option suits you better over a few days or weeks. If too much spam remains in the inbox, switch to High. If, on the other hand, too many normal emails, such as subscribed newsletters, are mistakenly filtered as spam, switch back to Low.
The option Safe Lists Only is not recommended, because it requires you to enter all safe senders into a list first. All emails from senders who are not on the list are automatically filtered as spam. And experience has shown that this also includes many emails that are not spam such as new clients or customers who would like to request a quote.
Step 3: In the Blocked Senders list you will see all the senders that have already been blocked. You can also unblock individual senders using the Remove button.
Step 4: Many spammers use domains from unknown countries as sender addresses, for example from small island states in the South Sea, where domains are cheap to register. On the International tab in the you can mark select country domains as spam if you are unlikely to ever receive any emails from these regions.
Step 5: If a spam email is not automatically detected as spam, mark it, and click . Then select Block Sender. Now, you will no longer receive emails from the selected sender in your inbox.

What Headers Should You Check In The Source
Okay, so you know how to view the source of an email, but what do you look for?
The easiest thing to check is the Received: header. This will tell you up front where the email came from originally. The part thats most important is the very end of the line where the dot-com/net/org is.
This email came from google.com so I know this email is safe. Whats before the google.com doesnt matter much as its the tail that counts. Spam and phishing attempts will attempt to fool you into thinking the mail was delivered from a trusted domain by inserting said domain in the middle. For example, a spam/phish would show as google.com.some.bad.site.ru or something similar. The google.com is in there, but not at the tail. Thats bad and its a spam/phish attempt.
Keep an eye on the tail side of a Received: header and youll easily be able to identify true trusted domains from spam and phishing attempts.

What Is An Infected Attachment
An infected attachment is a seemingly benign document that contains malware. In a typical example, like the one below, the phisher claims to be sending an invoice:
It doesnt matter whether the recipient expects to receive an invoice from this person or not, because in most cases they wont be sure what the message pertains to until they open the attachment.
When they open the attachment, theyll see that the invoice isnt intended for them, but it will be too late. The document unleashes malware on the victims computer, which could perform any number of nefarious activities.
We advise that you never open an attachment unless you are fully confident that the message is from a legitimate party. Even then, you should look out for anything suspicious in the attachment.
For example, if you receive a pop-up warning about the files legitimacy or the application asks you to adjust your settings, then dont proceed.
Contact the sender through an alternative means of communication and ask them to verify that its legitimate.
How To Identify Email Spoofed Phishing Attacks
Did you know that email scammers can easily forge the email from address? Its called email spoofing and it can make the job of spotting scams more difficult.
Email spoofing is a form of impersonation where a scammer creates an email message with a forged sender address in hopes of deceiving the recipient into thinking the email originated from someone other than the actual source. Scammers will use email spoofing to help disguise themselves as a supervisor, professor, or financial organization to trick users into performing some type of action. Scammers use this method of deception because they know a person is more likely to engage with the content of the email if they are familiar with who sent the message.
There are various types of email spoofing.
Display name spoofing portrays a display name of the person being impersonated while leaving the actual sending email address intact.
Example 1: “John Doe” < firstname.lastname@example.org> Example 2: “John Doe” < email@example.com>
There are a few things you can do to help determine if an email is coming from a spoofed email address or is otherwise malicious.
