How to Link to an Email Address in WordPress

Once you receive the email , click on the anchor links and watch the magic happen:

How To Link To An Email Address

An active link to an email address can be added to your blog similar to linking to a website.

When you link to a website, the website URL includes http:// before the address. For instance:

If you want to link to an email address, however, you will use mailto: instead of http:// before your address.

In the URL field, enter the email address with the mailto: as:

When you click a link to an email address, the link will attempt to open the default email program and start a new email to the linked email address. If you do not have a default email program, like Outlook or Mail, enabled on your computer, clicking a linked email address may not result in any action or you may be prompted to set up an email program. If you use a browser based webmail application, like Gmail or Yahoo!, you would need to right-click on the email link to copy the email address and paste the email in to your preferred email application.

How To Email A Web Page Link

Now that the website link has been copied, just paste it directly into your email program. The steps are identical no matter what program you use:

  • Right-click or tap-and-hold within the body of the message.

  • Choose the Paste option to insert the URL into the email.

  • Send the email as usual.

  • The above steps will insert the link as text, much like you see in the above example that links to this page. To make a hyperlink that will actually link the URL to specific text within the message is different for each email client.

    We’ll use Gmail as an example:

  • Select the text that should have the link anchored to it.

  • Select the Insert link from the bottom menu within the message .

  • Paste the URL into the Web address section.

  • Press OK to link the URL to the text.

  • Send the email as usual.

  • Most email clients let you share links through a similar option called Link or Insert Link. Microsoft Outlook, for example, lets you email URLs from the Insert tab, via the Link option in the Links section.

    Constant Contact doesnt restrict what you can do here in any way. You can effectively include the form anywhere you want in the sidebar, below your blog posts, on the homepage, literally anywhere.

    This is all done using the two pieces of code that you were given in the previous step: Universal Code and Inline Code.

    Well do the Universal Code first.

    Constant Contact instructs you to paste it right before the closing < /body> tag of your sites source code. But dont worry if youre not quite sure what this means. In practice, theres a handy workaround we can employ here.

    Were going to use our sites widgets to handle the Universal Code inclusion. Since widgets are usually present on all sub-pages within a WordPress website, adding a piece of code into a widget works just as well as adding it before the closing < /body> tag.

    In your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance Widgets. Grab the Custom HTML widget and drag it onto one of the widget areas you have available preferably some area in the footer. Paste in your Universal Code there. Like so:

  • It’s not possible to add a hyperlink to an email message in the mobile Gmail app. You can, however, just type or paste the URL into the body of the message. Any full URL is clickable by default.

  • 1Open the Outlook app on your phone or tablet. It’s the blue letter and envelope icon with an “O” in your app list.

    The name in quotes can be whatever you want. Just keep it simple and easy to remember ideally one word as this is the keyword youll use when linking to this anchor tag.
