    Calling Members of Congress that are not yours is actually counterproductive to successfully deploying constituent power. The only Members of Congress you should be calling are YOUR two Senators and YOUR Representative in the House. There are no exceptions. Heres why.

    Members of Congress dont care what people outside of their district or state think. Remember, MoCs care first and foremost about getting re-electedand the people who can cast actual votes for or against them are their own constituents. If you cant vote for or against them in their next election, they dont care what you thinkthey are laser-focused on their district/state only. Good staffers will ask for a zip code to ensure theyre speaking to an actual constituent. If they dont, chances are your phone call is not getting memorialized in any way.

    When you call a MoC who isnt yours, you make it harder for actual constituents to reach their own MoCs.People from Maine need to be able to reach Senator Collins about the issues they care about. People from Alaska need to be able to reach Senator Murkowski about the issues they care about. And so on. But if phones are ringing off the hook from other states, actual Mainers and actual Alaskansthe people Senators Collins and Murkowski really care aboutcant get through. Phones are congested enough as it isdont be part of this problem.

    Fed Chair Powell said the risk of persistent higher inflation has risen but still expects inflation to fall next year. Brown said employers are using inflation as an excuse to not raise employee wages.

    “CEOs are making just incredibly high salaries,” Brown said. “It’s 300 times what the average worker is making, average CEO salaries, they keep making more and more and more and more, and then they say I can’t increase wages, we can’t afford it and then they say we’ve got increased prices. Well, no and no. And that’s why we fight back.”

    Toomey called inflation, “a tax that is eroding Americans paychecks every day. Even though wages are growing, inflation is growing faster and causing workers to fall further and further behind.”

    Brown agreed with Toomey that it’s crucial to get inflation under control but said it’s also important to raise wages. “I have implored Chair Powell and Secretary Yellen also but especially Chair Powell to put workers at the center of our economic policy. The Fed has not done that.”

    Powell said members of the Federal Reserve will consider, at their meeting next week, speeding up the pace at which the Fed stops purchasing U.S. Treasury bonds and mortgage backed securities.

    “Ive been warning about the risks of higher and more persistent inflation since January. Unfortunately, the Fed has decided to continue its emergency monetary policy, adding fuel to the inflationary fire, long after the economic emergency had passed,” Toomey said.
