About Sending Anonymous Emails
If youre like most people, you have a regular email account that you use for messaging friends and family, as well as keeping up with news and information. Maybe you have a work email too that has a slightly higher level of security, especially if you work with sensitive information. But what if you really need to be able to send an email and know for sure that no one can track your identity or read your messages?
For example, perhaps you need to contact a journalist with information but dont want to be named as a source. Or you need to whistle blow about illegal or immoral behaviour by your company but you dont want to jeopardise your job. Or perhaps you are simply someone who values their privacy very highly and does not like the current trend for centralising huge amounts of data about individuals, their preferences, and their activities online.
In these cases, you need an anonymous email. Either you want a whole anonymous email account which is not linked to your real identity, or you want to be able to send a one-off anonymous email.
How An Anonymous Email Works
The simplest trick to creating a private email is to create a fake email account with any of the primary email providers.
For starters, youll use a fake name with fake personal details.
But heres the problem, you need to verify your email with a phone number. Well, that doesnt do much to hide your identity.
Luckily, there is a way to avoid all the drama of creating a private email in this tech era. It all starts with you using a private email service provider.
Check this out:
Private email services will not ask for much of your personal information. Thats the first advantage. But hey, new flash:
- You get an automated email deletion on the email expiration date
- Get a protected email password
- Access an IP blocker that hides your IP address
- Install a two-tier email encryption
See, thats what you need for an anonymous emailpassword-protected, IP address protected, email account protected, email messages protected, and most importantly, your personal information kept safe.
So whats the difference?
Use Your Email Client And A Vpn
The second method for sending an anonymous email is using an email client installed on your system. There are three steps to take to make sure you remain anonymous:
- Sign up for a throwaway email address
- Install Thunderbird or an alternative free email client
- Install and connect to a VPN service
All you have to do is fire up your VPN and make sure your computer is using a remote IP address. Then, send an email via your email client using the throwaway account. The email header will show your VPN IP address instead of your originating IP address in the email header.

You Are A Whistleblower
An anonymous email, like an anonymous phone call, can be vital for combating crime, corruption, abuse, fraud, sexual harassment or other violations of the law. However, even though whistleblowers usually fight for justice they put themselves at risk by doing so. The accused party can get them fired, blacklist them, bully them or even take legal action against them. Therefore, anonymity equals protection.
Can Emails Be Traced By The Police
Law enforcement and government agencies have the right to demand that email services provide them with IPs and other user data if a court order or subpoena has been issued. However, this depends on the laws governing the company where it is based. For example, services based in Switzerland and some other European countries cannot be forced to fulfill this request.

Install A Tor Browser
TOR is an anonymous browsing protocol that helps you access the web without revealing your network location and data packets. Think of it as a network of private nodes. When you access the web using a TOR browser, your browser request first goes through this network of nodes before reaching the last destination.
This encrypts the data packets, including the IP address multiple times, thus ensuring anonymity. So when you wish to send an anonymous email, using a TOR browser besides a VPN will bolster your privacy even further.
However, there will be two downsides of using this combination of TOR plus VPN:
- Slow internet speed. Since a browser request goes through multiple intermediary networks, websites will appear to be loading very slow.
- Some websites, especially those using Cloudflare might block requests from TOR browsers as bad browser requests.

Second Step: Anonymous Email
You can set up a relatively anonymous Gmail account, provided you don’t give Google your real name, location, birthday, or anything else the search giant asks for when you sign up .
You will eventually have to provide Google some other identifying method of contact, such as a third-party email address or a phone number. With a phone, you could use a burner or temporary number. An app like Hushed or Burner works, or buy a pre-paid cell phone and fib throughly when asked for any personal info.
There are anonymous email services you can use, so why use Gmail at all? The Electronic Frontier Foundation says it’s smart to use a different email provider from your personal account if you crave anonymity. That way you’re less likely to get complacent and make a mistake.
Note that you also should use an email service that supports secure sockets layer encryption. That’s the basic encryption used on a web connection to prevent casual snooping, like when you’re shopping at Amazon. You’ll know it’s encrypted when you see HTTPS in the URL and a lock symbol in the address or status bar.
Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook.com all support HTTPS Google’s Chrome browser flags all non-HTTPS sites as insecure. The HTTPS Everywhere extension for Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Android also ensures that websites default to using the protocol.
The point is, once you’ve gone this far, there’s no reason to go back. Utilize a truly anonymous web-based mail service. Here are some to try.
Use A Fully Private And Secure Email Service
Many email service providers do an excellent job at sending and receiving emails, but they perform badly in terms of providing security, privacy, or encryption features for users and their emails. Using a fully private and secure email service helps solve those problems.
Many email providers do not store emails in encrypted format because they want to easily scan through your emails to send you targeted ads! Private and secure email services provide full encryption services for your emails. They do not track your activities in a bid to use your information for advertising.

Use An Encrypted And Anonymous Email Service
Encrypted email will function just like a regular service with the bonus that end-to-end encryption makes it much safer. Such encryption covers your emails, inbox, and contact list. No one spying on your traffic will be able to read your emails, including even the service provider . Different providers offer different features, but ProtonMail, Tutanota, StartMail and Guerilla Mail are guaranteed to be more private than Gmail or Yahoo.

Depending on the service provider, these apps come with different unique features, tools, and guides. All of which will be explained in detail, soon enough.

How To Create Anonymous Email
- Removes Malware which Antivirus cannot
- Protects from Ransomware Attacks
In modern times, the major concern for a person is his online privacy. From government to e-commerce companies to other marketing organizations, all are continuously keeping track of your online activities, sometimes with and sometimes without your knowledge.
It is true that, if you are not paying for a product, then you are a product.
The same goes for the email provider companies like Google, Yahoo, and others. They provide you the email IDs and along with that other services like cloud storage for FREE of cost, but that is not true. The price you pay for your free email is your privacy.
With email being the most common mode of formal communication, the government and other marketing companies use them to spy on your activities so that you can be traced back.
There might be many reasons for which you have to send an anonymous email to someone without revealing your identity. Maybe you have to send secret files to someone or tell something about your colleague to your boss without letting them know it is you. Or maybe you want to become a whistleblower and release the dirty secrets of government organizations. In all such scenarios, you dont want others to know your identity, or leave any trace behind so that you can be tracked.
Surely, now you might have understood that the free email providers like Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and others are not an option to create an anonymous email.

It All Starts With Tor
Before we get to creating an anonymous email account we have to make sure our location and Internet Protocol address are also anonymous. Not everyone may want to take this step. Lets say all you want to do is use a pen name to submit letters to the editor at a national newspaper. Depending on your situation, you may not really care about hiding your location under this scenario. Not masking your location means that a motivated person will probably be able to find you.
The easiest way to hide your location is to download the Tor Browser, which is based on Firefox. Tor reroutes you through a series of servers, dubbed nodes, supplied by volunteers. By the time you exit the server network onto the open Internet it is very difficult to figure out where you came from.
The Tor Browser is just like any other browser. The only difference is it takes a few extra seconds to start-up as the browser connects to the Tor network.
You can download the Tor Browser directly from the Tor projects website and then install it. When you install the browser you end up with a folder that contains the program, which is usually installed to your desktop.
The Tor Browser isnt integrated into your system the way other apps are. If you really want to go anonymous, I would recommend moving the folder to a USB drive and running it off that.
How To Create An Anonymous Email Account Using Gmail
- Activate your Hidester VPN by connecting to any of the VPNs servers.
- Navigate to the Gmail Homepage. If you have already signed in on your browser, you may need to sign out.
- Click Create an Account on the top right side of the page.
- Sign up with completely anonymous details and click Next
- Since a phone number and recovery email is optional with Gmail, you can just ignore the two. Feed in a fake DOB.
- On the next page, just click Agree
- You have now created an anonymous Gmail account.
However, without a VPN, this account is traceable. Google keeps all the details, and in case of an investigation, they will just check the IP address of the user who created or logged in to that account.
That is why we advise you to use Hidester, a VPN based in the friendly Hong Kong and with a strict zero log policy.

Wrapping It Up: What Is The Best Anonymous Email Account Provider
ProtonMail is my #1 recommendation, as it not only allows you to create an anonymous email address, but you can keep it forever. You can also use their mobile apps to send and view emails.
A solid runner-up is Guerilla Mail. However, although any email address you create lasts forever until you manually tell the server to forget it, you cant protect your inbox with a password.
Still, nobody can access it unless they know your real address, which is almost impossible to figure out.

How Much Does It Cost
Some people shy away from using anonymous email, because of the associated costs. After all, services like Gmail and Hotmail are free. But, these services do run ads in your email account to make up for the free service.
The question becomes:
Would you rather pay for your email service with cash, or with your personal information thats sold to third-party advertisers?
Youll find a variety of paid and free anonymous email options.
There are pricier anonymous email services. But, youll also find a ton of free and cheap options.
Anonymous email, with all the protection features they provide, arent that pricey. Especially if youre purchasing an account for yourself, and not for your entire organization.
Individual costs for an anonymous email account range from $25$80+ for the entire year, with an average monthly cost of $5 per month.
And thats just for the premium accounts, which are equipped with extra storage, and security features.
Almost every anonymous email provider also offers free accounts. These accounts are limited by the amount of email storage provided or the number of emails you can send per month.
