How Do I Attach An Email To An Email Using Outlookcom Email Service
Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this – something that no doubt a Child knows how to do:
I want to find out how to attach Emails to Emails that I am composing.
I have read a very
brief description on how to do this on the Outlook.com Help website which describes this:
Attach an email message to another message:
In the message list, select the message you want to attach.
Drag the message into the message compose pane.
Position the mouse below the subject line and release it. The message should be attached.
Reading that description the process should be very simple but I still cannot see how to do it.
I am not at all experienced in `Computing` but I have been using my Hotmail Email Account via Outlook.com since Outlook was introduced –however I cannot even work out where this `compose pane` is ?
Also if I click onto any message in the message list it obviously opens – and if I `right click` onto any message I get a Menu list that shows nothing at all related to attaching the message to another Email.
Could any Member explain how to attach an Email to an Email using an Outlook.com Email Account – in a step by step / `Idiot proof` description please.
I would be very grateful to find out how to do something that no doubt almost every other person that uses Outlook Email knows how to do.

How To Attach An Email To Another Email In Outlook And Why Its Useful
In the process of communication, especially when it comes to sending emails, it may turn out that it is necessary to trace the past events or refer to previous emails. Of course, instead of looking for ways on how to attach an email to an email in Outlook, one may simply forward one or copy-paste essential information. However, in practice, these options are not convenient. Forwarding leads to accumulating numerous emails in which it will be hard to navigate. While pasting does not actually prove anything if this is needed.
Knowing how to attach a file to an email in Outlook, you will have no problems with attaching an email. The concept is the same. First, it is necessary to find an email or file that has to be attached. If you are used to saving emails to the hard drive of your PC, find it among the folders. After, click once, drag this email , and drop in the email to which it has to be attached. One may also drag and drop an email that is not saved. Find it in the inbox or any other folder in Outlook and drag this email over to a new message.

How To Attach An Email In Outlook
You can attach an email directly without saving the email first. Here are the steps
- To attach to a new email, on the top left of your Outlook client, click New Email.
- Alternatively, you could also reply to an email and attach another email to the reply.
- On the menu of the new or reply email, click the Attach Item drop-down. Then, from the displayed drop-down options, click Outlook Item. The Attach Item pop up window will open.
- The Attach Item pop up has 2 sections an upper section where you select where the email you want to attach is located Inbox, Sent Items, etc .
- It also has the lower portion where you scroll through to locate the email you want to attach.
- On the top right corner of the pop up , you have your Insert as options. You can insert the email as an Attachment or as Text only .
- Scroll down the lower part of the pop up window and click on the email you want to attach. Then, to attach an email in Outlook, on the top right of the Window, click OK.
- The email will now be attached like a normal attachment. The email recipient can simply double-click the attached email to open it. It will open like a normal Outlook email.
Try To Limit The Attachment File’s Size
Most email servers have a size limit for attachments, so it is recommended that you limit the size of the attached files as much as you can. This can be done in several ways, depending on the nature of the files. Most files will be significantly smaller if you use compressing software to convert them to zip files. You can also resize pictures with unnecessarily high resolutions to greatly reduce their file size, and you can compress multiple text files into a single PDF file.

Expanding The Send To Menu In Windows 11
The “send to” submenu can be much more useful when you expand it with the shortcuts you need. Adding new folders and drives to that menu will enable you to quickly send files to them without having to manually find their locations. You can quickly open files with certain programs by selecting software options there.
“Send to” printer options can also be very useful shortcuts for printing files more quickly. As such, an expanded “send to” submenu can be a great extension to Windows 11s context menu.
Copy & Paste The File Path
My preferred method for attaching files is to copy & paste the file path. This method works with any email client and also any file type, not just Excel files.
The process is simple. You just need to copy the file’s path to the clipboard, then paste it in the File name field of the File Explorer window in the email attachment window.
Let me break that down into steps.
Step #1: Copy the file path to the clipboard
The file path is the full file location of the file including the drive letter, folders, and full file name. It will look something like the following.
So how do we copy it to the clipboard? You can actually do this from the File> Info menu in Excel. In Excel 2013 and 2016 you can left-click on this field and select Copy link to clipboard. In 2010 you use Ctrl+C to copy the path.
The keyboard shortcuts for copy link to clipboard are:
- Excel 2010: Alt, F, I, G, Ctrl+C
- Excel 2013, 2016: Alt, F, I, G, C
You can also use a macro to copy the path to the clipboard, and add a button to the Quick Access Toolbar. Here is a post by Dick Kusleika from Daily Dose of Excel on how to copy the file path to the clipboard with a macro. I have this setup on my QAT and it allows me to copy the file path with one click or keyboard shortcut. Leave a comment below if you would like me to explain more about this setup.
Step #2: Paste the file path to the attachment window
Open the email in your email client and press the Attach button.

Why Cant I Find The Attachment In My Email
If you cant see attachments in an email, close Outlook and re-open it, then view the email again. Sometimes this can force the program to redownload the files from the server. Check your internet connection. Make sure your device is connected to the internet or your data plan and try opening the email again.
Outlookcom Or Office 365
Seriously, youre forwarding GreenNet email to Microsoft Webmail? One solution is getting a sensible email program like Thunderbird. Otherwise, what you have to do it go to then View message source, then copy the contents into a new file on your desktop with a .eml extension, then compose a New message and attach the .eml file from your computer.

How To Add Shortcut Options To The Send To Menu
To customize the “send to” menu, youll need to open the SendTo folder. Then you can add new shortcut options to that menus folder. Here is how to add folder and program shortcuts to Windows 11s “send to” menu.
Now right-click a file to bring up the “send to” menu. Youll see it includes the new folder or software shortcut you just added. You can add both standard folders or cloud storage ones to the “send to” menu with the Create Shortcuts tool much the same. However, youll need to have installed cloud storage apps for their folders to be available for selection within File Explorer.
Dragging and dropping folders and desktop shortcuts is another way to add items to the “send to” menu. You can drag-and-drop folders and shortcuts into the SendTo folder within File Explorer or from the desktop. To drag an item into that folder, left-click it, hold the left mouse button, and move the folder or desktop shortcut into SendTo.
Copy And Paste Emails
Alternatively, you could just copy and paste other emails into one email to attach them without any files. You can do that by selecting the text in one email with the cursor and pressing the Ctrl + C keyboard shortcut. Click Compose and press the Ctrl + V hotkey to paste the copied message into the text editor.
