How To Create Spam On Social Media

Step 1) Pin a bunch of stuff to Pinterest that has no visually redeeming qualities. Be sure to shorten the links in your pins’ descriptions, too, if you really want to get marked as spam. Marketers who are particularly on the top of their game will make their links go to unrelated web pages the cream of the crop will just make them broken links.

Step 2) Cram your tweets with dumb hashtags, especially if they’re unrelated to the tweet’s subject matter. You might even consider crafting a tweet made entirely of hashtags!

Step 3)Hijack someone else’s hashtag. For example, when the next #twilight movie comes out, be sure to use that to promote your upcoming webinar, because of the natural tie-in between werewolves and your data appending service.

Step 4) Automatically retweet everything an industry leader shares, indiscriminately, so you can be sure to bombard their @Mentions feed. That’s how they’ll notice you. Similarly, it’s a good idea to personally ‘Like’ everything you post on Facebook immediately after you publish it, so Facebook and page visitors know your content is engaging. This works best when you are the only one who Likes your updates, ever.

Step 5) Don’t do any targeting in your social media PPC or advertising. Best to just blanket the social mediasphere so everyone sees your stuff.

From Gmail To Outlook Spam Is A Growing Problem In Our Inboxes

Jaden Geller is giving up on his Gmail inbox. The 26-year-old security engineer in San Francisco has been battling an explosion of spam to his free email account for months, like mailing lists he never signed up for and obvious scams. He thinks the address has been compromised beyond saving.

I was better about actually deleting spam messages at first, but then it became unmanageable, Geller said. I used to archive every single message. Now thats too much of a hassle. Im checking my inbox less frequently, not looking at everything, and leaving it in a messy state.

Email spam is an old problem that many people may have forgotten about or, at least, made peace with. Thanks to improvements in automatic filters from email providers and third-party services, the early 2000s onslaught of sketchy Viagra offers and promised contest winnings were mostly kept out of sight. The spam waterfall became a leaky faucet, with just a few iffy emails showing up in our inboxes alongside a bunch of legitimate marketing emails that are, often, our own doing.

But over the course of the pandemic particularly in the past six months many people using free-email services have noticed a surge of unwanted scamemails slipping through the filters and landing in their inboxes. Gmail users have been most vocal about the issue, and some are so overwhelmed with spam theyre trying to figure out what they can do about it. Fortunately, the Help Desk is here to help.

Do Not Attempt To Unsubscribe From Spam Email

Most marketing emails and newsletters include an unsubscribe link that you can use to opt out of receiving communications from that sender. If you have trouble finding such a link, Proton Mail offers our own built-in unsubscribe feature, which automatically initiates the unsubscribe routine for that mailing list.

Legitimate companies will respect your preferences, so this can be very useful for unsubscribing from legitimate but unwanted emails.

However, for emails that do not come from a legitimate source, asking to unsubscribe will not only be ineffective, but, as with answering spam emails, it will confirm that your email address is valid and active. This will likely result in you receiving even more spam.
