How Do I Email All Of Congress

Invite Your Member Of Congress To An Event In The District/state

How to Find Someones Email Address (in Seconds)

During the year numerous recesses are scheduled so that members of Congress can visit their districts. Plan to take advantage of this opportunity and invite your member to an event in the district/state.

  • Plan ahead. Members of Congress have very busy schedules and their calendars fill up quickly. Send your invitation several months in advance of the date for the event.
  • Contact the right person. Call your members office to find out the proper procedure for sending an invitation. Most members have executive assistants in their Washington offices who are responsible for scheduling requests. Invitations are generally requested to be in writing. Send the invitation to the attention of the executive assistant who is responsible for the members calendar. This will expedite the process. Also send a copy of the letter to the members district office. The Washington and district offices usually coordinate when the member is travelling in the state.
  • Be flexible. If at all possible, note in the invitation that you are willing to accommodate the members schedule.
  • One possible event is to invite your members of Congress back home to visit your schools. You may want to also speak with the members communications director to help get the media to cover the event.

We Finally Gave Congress Email Addresses

Update:

Weve added a new feature to OpenCongress. Its not flashy. It doesnt use D3 or integrate with social media. But we still think its pretty cool. You mightve already heard of it.

Email.

This may not sound like a big deal, but its been a long time coming. A lot of people are surprised to learn that Congress doesnt have publicly available email addresses. Its the number one feature request that we hear from users of our APIs. Until recently, we didnt have a good response.

Thats because members of Congress typically put their feedback mechanisms behind captchas and zip code requirements. Sometimes these forms break sometimes their requirements improperly lock out actual constituents. And they always make it harder to email your congressional delegation than it should be.

This is a real problem. According to the Congressional Management Foundation, 88% of Capitol Hill staffers agree that electronic messages from constituents influence their bosses decisions. We think that its inappropriate to erect technical barriers around such an essential democratic mechanism.

Congress itself is addressing the problem. That effort has just entered its second decade, and people are feeling optimistic that a launch to a closed set of partners might be coming soon. But we werent content to wait.

How To Contact Your Representative Or Senator: A Beginners Guide

This post is coauthored by Barbara Bavis, instructional librarian, and Robert Brammer, senior legal reference specialist

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

We frequently receive questions and comments from patrons who want to exercise their First Amendment right by making their position known on a piece of legislation. When patrons ask us what they can do to be heard regarding a piece of legislation, we will often suggest that they contact their senators and representatives directly. Because this process can seem somewhat overwhelming at first glance, we wanted to provide this quick and easy guide regarding how to determine who your members of Congress are and how to contact those members.

In most cases, you will initially receive a canned response from the government. You may get a response from the government office that you emailed. However, the response is usually written by staff members.

In rare cases, you may receive an email from the actual government official. Again, this is rare. Given the volume of emails they receive, it is usually not feasible for the official to personally respond to messages.

The following will help you get in touch with various members of the U.S. government via email:

Zelenskyy Calls For No

Washington Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a plea directly to members of Congress on Wednesday for the U.S. to help create a no-fly zone over Ukrainian skies and to provide more weapons to bolster Ukraine’s ability to combat Russia’s airpower as Moscow continues its bombardment of the country.

In a virtual address before both chambers of Congress, Zelenskyy invoked key events in U.S. history, including the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and September 11, 2001, terror attacks to urge members to provide his country with more assistance to beat back Russia’s aggression.

“Just like nobody else expected it, you could not stop it,” he said. “Our country experienced the same every day, right now at this moment, every night, for three weeks now.”

Russia, he continued, “has turned the Ukrainian sky into a source of death for thousands of people.”

Speaking through a translator for the first portion of his speech, Zelenskyy asked whether it is “too much to ask” for the U.S. to create a no-fly zone over his country and provide air defense systems such as the Russian-made S-300 surface-to-air missile systems. He also called for the U.S. to impose new packages of sanctions, including on all Russian lawmakers, “until the Russian war machine stops” and pushed lawmakers to pressure businesses in their districts who have continued operating in Russia to cease doing so.

Tips For Sending Effective E

How to migrate Email to Microsoft 365 | from any IMAP server
  • Put Your Name and Address at the Top of Message. The first thing your representative wants to determine is if you live in his or her district. If you don’t … delete. Representatives and staff do not have any obligation and little time to read messages from people who are not constituents, so it is vital that you make it clear that you live in the district.
  • Humanize Your Message. This is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your e-mail makes an impact. Many people are uncomfortable sharing their feelings or talking about their own experiences, or believe that such information is inappropriate to the legislative process. Yet, it is this information that separates one’s message from the standardized, bulk messages drafted by interest groups. These messages are more likely to be read than simply tallied.
  • Be Brief.Members of Congress and their staff are extremely busy. Respect their time and try to tell them only what they need to know. Two or three paragraphs should be sufficient. Do not feel that you have to make every single argument that relates to the issue, only the strongest points you can make.
  • Be Clear About Your Position.Your request should be stated as a concrete, actionable item, e.g., “I would like you to support H.R. 100.”
  • Avoid Attachments.Congressional offices rarely print or read attachments to e-mail. Offer to provide supporting documents on request, but avoid sending attached files.

Why You Should Not Call Members Who Arent Yours

Calling Members of Congress that are not yours is actually counterproductive to successfully deploying constituent power. The only Members of Congress you should be calling are YOUR two Senators and YOUR Representative in the House. There are no exceptions. Heres why.

Members of Congress dont care what people outside of their district or state think. Remember, MoCs care first and foremost about getting re-electedand the people who can cast actual votes for or against them are their own constituents. If you cant vote for or against them in their next election, they dont care what you thinkthey are laser-focused on their district/state only. Good staffers will ask for a zip code to ensure theyre speaking to an actual constituent. If they dont, chances are your phone call is not getting memorialized in any way.

When you call a MoC who isnt yours, you make it harder for actual constituents to reach their own MoCs.People from Maine need to be able to reach Senator Collins about the issues they care about. People from Alaska need to be able to reach Senator Murkowski about the issues they care about. And so on. But if phones are ringing off the hook from other states, actual Mainers and actual Alaskansthe people Senators Collins and Murkowski really care aboutcant get through. Phones are congested enough as it isdont be part of this problem.

Are There Basic Tips For Sending An E

Thank you letter from Leader Nancy Pelosi

Letters or emails to your Congressional or State legislators can make a difference when it comes to educating your legislator on an issue that is important to you. Your legislator SHOULD listen to his/her constituents in order to understand the view of the people he/she represents. Correspondence is an important part of developing a positive relationship with your legislator, but there are some basic guidelines to ensure you gain the most from your letters/emails. Remember your legislator receives numerous letters/emails on a daily basis, so your correspondence needs to be clear and concise to increase chances of receiving a timely and thorough response.

The following are some basic tips to ensure you receive the most from your correspondence:

  • In the first paragraph of your letter/email, identify yourself and that you are a voting constituent in your legislators state or district.
  • In the first paragraph, indicate whether you are writing on behalf of yourself, or on behalf of an organization or coalition.
  • In the following paragraphs, provide facts and examples to support your position, including any cost or regulatory impact of the bill/policy you are either supporting or not supporting. If you have specific data or statistics to support your position, cite this information. Data often drives funding.
  • Remember to personalize the issue you are writing about and how the legislation will positively or negatively affect you or those you represent.
  • Limit your letter to one page!
