When Case Status Online Reflects Approved
- Check your USCIS case status online using your I-797 receipt number at uscis.gov or through your USCIS Online Account to obtain your USPS tracking number once USCIS has mailed your EAD card.
- If someone else is receiving the EAD on your behalf, alert that person that a piece of mail should be arriving soon and to notify you as soon as it arrives. If that person will be mailing you the EAD, please be sure that they use a method of delivery that provides a tracking number.
- Take any steps possible to ensure delivery of your mail. If you live in an apartment complex, check that your name is on your mailbox. If you have roommates, alert them you are expecting something important.
How To Tell Uscis Your Address Has Changed
Most types of applicants can either submit a change of address online or call USCIS’s customer contact number, 800-375-5283, to change their address.
Another possibility is to complete and print out Form AR-11 and then mail it to the address listed on the USCIS website. If changing your address through the mail after having submitted applications to USCIS that are still being processed, it is a good idea to also send a letter to the office processing your application to separately advise it of the new address.
It is imperative that, in filing the change of address notification, you list the receipt number of every application that is still pending.
For example, a U.S. citizen child might petition for her father and file an adjustment of status application, and he might wish to work while the application is pending. This application requires three forms:
- Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.
Each form and its receipt number must be listed on the Change of Address form, whether changing the details online, by mail, or via Form AR-11.
If filing an AR-11 by mail, be sure to use a carrier that offers tracking, such as the U.S. Postal Service with certified mail and a return receipt requested. That way, you will have proof that you submitted it to USCIS, in case it gets lost.
If You Receive Notice From Uscis Requiring Additional Action
If any of the following happen, contact an International Center advisor immediately for advice:
- You receive a Request for Evidence in the mail or see in Case Status Online that one was sent. In order to best advise you on the next steps, an advisor will request to see a copy of the RFE.
- You receive your I-765 application back in the mail or see in Case Status Online that it was rejected and/or returned. The International Center may need to cancel and reissue your OPT I-20 in this situation if the OPT recommendation has expired.
Either of the above are an indication that additional action is required for your OPT application. No progress will be made on your application until USCIS receives the necessary documentation from you.
The allowable time period to respond to an RFE or rejected application is limited and will be indicated on the materials from USCIS. If you fail to respond by the deadline, your application will be denied.

After your account has been authenticated, you can select a form to fill in and upload the requested documents. Remember, you mustnt leave any fields blank.
Do You Need To Tell Uscis About Your New Address
Most foreign nationals, as well as U.S. citizens who have sponsored an immigrant, must tell USCIS promptly if they move house. Failing to do so could result in delays to pending applications, fines, a jail sentence, or even deportation. In practice, USCIS doesnt have the resources to prosecute every immigrant who fails to update their address but in the current climate, its best to play by the rules.

If Your Application Is Denied
If USCIS denies your application, they will mail you a notice of denial. This will document the reason for denial. To best assess your options, please contact an International Center advisor as soon as possible since the denial impacts your legal status in the U.S. An advisor will request to see a copy of the denial notice to best advise you on the next steps.

Us Immigration Law Requires Green Card Holders To Advise Uscis Of New Addresses
First, the law itself. Almost all non-U.S. citizens who are in the U.S. are required to give USCIS their new address within ten days of moving. Filing a change of address form with the U.S. post office is not sufficient. You must alert USCIS directly of your new address.
Only a few people do not have to give USCIS their address after moving, including:
- foreign government representatives to international organizations , and
- some nonimmigrants without visas who are in the U.S. for fewer than 30 days.
